President Akufo-Addo inaugurates Phase II of Kaleo Solar Power Plant

On April 24th, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo presided over the official inauguration of phase two of the Kaleo Solar Power Plant in Ghana’s Kaleo district, marking a significant advancement in the nation’s renewable energy agenda.

With a capacity of 15MWp, this expansion underscores Ghana’s commitment to clean energy and sustainable development. In his address to dignitaries, community members, and chiefs, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the pivotal role of renewable energy in driving economic growth, combating climate change, and ensuring energy security.

The President commended the collaborative efforts of stakeholders, including the local community, the German Government, the Volta River Authority (VRA), and project contractors, for their contributions to the successful completion of the project.

Emphasizing Kaleo’s strategic importance as a renewable energy hub, President Akufo-Addo reiterated the government’s commitment to incentivizing green investments and prioritizing solar, wind, and hydroelectric power projects.

Phase two of the Kaleo Solar Power Plant not only adds clean energy to the national grid but also enhances power supply quality in the Upper West Region while significantly reducing carbon emissions. Additionally, it will facilitate practical studies in solar power development by technical universities in northern Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to investing in electricity transmission infrastructure to support renewable energy expansion and achieve universal electricity access by the end of the year.

He emphasized the importance of corporate social responsibility in the Kaleo community and underscored the plant’s role as a catalyst for regional development and investment.

The President concluded by highlighting Ghana’s vision to emerge as a leader in renewable energy in the region, inspiring neighbouring countries to embrace sustainable energy solutions. He emphasized the transformative impact of renewable energy infrastructure on economic growth, job creation, and environmental sustainability.
